has the leopard got new spots
Oct 30th
Well I was such a little fanboi that I’ve got leopard installed, things that I’m interested in:-
* RSS reader in mail
* spaces
* calendar App showing todays date
Things they didn’t mention which i think are good:-
* Tabbed terminal windows! Apple+T for a new one, Apple+}|{ to move between tabs
Aside from that, the coverflow-esque viewer to finder is quite nice – and pretty quick too. Admittedly, zfs is there – but no zpool create yet
Think i’ll have to get the developer kit for that one.
travel tips
Oct 4th
Heh, well ok, I didn’t know but when abroad and you need to use google, it can be slightly tricky to use if you don’t know the local language.
So if you use :-
http://www.google.no/en
It’ll change your default language to english – this also works with changing back to anything like
http://www.google.co.uk/ru
To swap yourself to Russian – very helpful – previously i was also hand adding ?hl=en to do a similar thing.
Another tip, if you cancel the flight – you can claim back flight duty and tax even if you can’t claim on the airfare – and that’s normally a reasonable chunk of change for long flights!
fad languages
Oct 3rd

Fad languages, last it was ruby (and rails) and now it’s erlang, previously it was python, and before that was java – each here to save the world and provide world peace – ok, so perhaps not the last one.
I like the idea of rails, the language is pretty nice too – but my goodness it’s slow – and i used to think java was bad (well it was – for totally different reasons). Interesting notes about the java community wanting closures, though it did take me a while to remember what they are! Though I never truly did grok the usage of lambda closures; which is probably a good thing really.
Ah, LPC – definitely the easiest way to learn an object orientated language – certainly makes things a lot more concrete for understanding – didn’t like C++ for probably the same reason – despite it being probably a little cleaner to use. Heh, be interesting to see what the next fad is —
